got in the bog and the rushes were cut in the fields. There was hardly any beds. In some houses they used to sleep on straw left on the floor. In other houses there was one bed, and if there were a big family one half would have to sit up while the other half would be sleeping. The floors were made of clay. They had no windows only a board which they used to take out in the day time, and put in at night. The fire was generally at the gable. There was no half doors. During the day they used to put a creel in the door to keep out things. It was generally rush candles that the old people used. They used to peel the rushes and put them on the hob to dry. When they were dry they dipped them in oil. There were candlesticks made in the forges for holding the candles. Later on they used to make "rozen" candles
