    You've there made well by washing o'er.
    By the cliffs of Doom 'neath the silver moon,
    The ghost-like "Castle of the waves" appears,
    Whose slender form has stood the storm
    And sunshine of a thousand years.
    Like a ship at rest on the ocean's breast,
    So the Virgin Rock sits calmly there;
    Where the birds of ocean with deep devotion,
    Appear to offer their evening prayer.
    The Nine Daughters Hole, where waves deeply roll,
    "Tis with awe you drew near to the strife;
    And glance to the deep where the nine daughters sleep,
    Individed in death as in life.
    The Castle hoary, once proud in glory,
    Looked right across to the shores of Clares,
    Its troops-hung walls, and rush sewn Halls,
    Saw hearty welcome for the stranger there.
    The now small portion just gives a notion,
    What the Castle was in its palmy days;
    When the mistral sung and its old halls rung,
    With the sound of Mirth and warmer praises.
