    When a wake was held long ago, the women of this place would come in and cry around the corpse and if another woman came in after they would sing a song called a "Caoine".
    "Caoining" is still done also at the wakes and it is done also when the corpse is put into the grave.

    Clay pipes and snuff are distributed at wakes - on one is supposed to refuse either.

    There are always thirteen candlesticks put on a table near the corpse, one candle of which is never lighted: these candles represent Our Lord and His twelve apostles - the unlighted candle stands for Judas.
