The teacher usually stayed for a few months with each pupil. The subjects taught were arithmetic Spelling and Geography of the district. The teachers never taught Irish as there was no need to teach it. The pupils always spoke Irish. They never taught subjects through Irish. There was great [?] on Irish at that time. The children had no books but a spelling book called a [?] The children wrote with slates and pencils and they made notes of Geography on a wooden chart. They had pieces of tree trunks for seats. The teachers got 1/6 month from the pupils.
