“Ballycarbery Castle was the stronghold of several Kerry chieftains, the O Connells, O Sheas, Mc Carthys and was built with some peculiar mortar of a binding nature...”

Ohermong Castle now demolished, the residence of Mc Carthy Mor's, descendants of O'Connell on the mothers side. Last descendants living until 1900 or so Madam Mc Carthy in the Convent Caherciveen.
The Golán Bán in the vicinity a peculiar stone composed of various fragments even diamond are embedded in it but none will tough it as there is an old tradition that if anyone should touch it he will be taken to Tir Na nóg. It has also been said that a woman who was taken by the faeries slept a night underground there. She gave a great description of it afterwords, a most beautiful place.. She was from Ballinskelligs. There was guest credence given to her.
Letter Castle also demolished, built by the Mc Crohans. Several forts in the vicinity of different types, some burrowed out in the clay for distances around, others of stone work.
