The treasure that is hidden in Carrigeen rath is supposed to have been hidden there by the Danes. It is a golden cross and some pots of gold and and silver. The Danes it is said had stolen them from some church and hid them there. It is said that they are in the middle of the rath. No attempts have ever been made to unearth them.
A hare is supposed to guard it and when anyone goes to touch it the hare turns into a wich.
There is another treasure in Carrigeen bog. No one knows who put it there. It is supposed to be twelve bars of gold and some silver cups. Some people say that some king hid it there and that it was(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
