Nearly all of the houses in this locality are thatched, and the farmers that them themselves.
There are two kinds of thatch, common-thatch and sew-thatch.
There is one man in this locality who is a noted sew thatcher. His name is Lot Doolin. He says that scollops cut from a bog-deal stick are the best, because it is easier twist them, and they don't rot quickly. Sew-thatch looks by far tidier than common-thatch the scollops are hardly noticeable, therefore it looks very even and tidy.- Faisnéiseoir
