Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Shops were not as common in olden times as they are now. People had to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Buying and selling were carried on after Mass. The articles sold in this way were, tobacco, matches, bread, cigarettes and matches.
    Goods were also bartered in this district but sometimes labour was given in exhange. Words such as "boot and score" were connected with buying and selling. People got thing on score when they would not be paying for them at the time of purchase. Boot was money given with the article when swopping.
    Hucksters, pedlars, and dealers in rags were common in the district
    They are not common now.
    The names given to the various coins were,
    a half-penny was called a "make",
    a penny called a "wing"
    a three penny bit was called a "kids eye"
    a sixpence called a "tanner",
    a shilling called a "bob", aflorin was called "two bob", a pound was called "a quid", a half-
