She, her uncle John Keefe & a workman named Kelly had been working about an hour when Dwyer & 10 men came into the field & the minute they came up they bade each other the time of day & Dwyer said that one of them would have to go with them & Kelly said which ever the lot would fall on
   They drew lots & her uncle drew the long straw & he went on with them without a word & he got such a shock that he took the reaping hook away
