Gazing on the Word, in in His light, A sign of the Redemption, I might read, I Gabriel perceiv'd, on errand speed Adown the choirs, towards me, from Heaven's height, With love refulgent, and begirt with might, And since, 'twas he, to Daniel* erst reveal'd The myst'ry, in the "seventy weeks" conceal'd And late, to Zucehariast wing'd his flight, I dared request his aim. In meek reply, With knowing smile, he said -- "To earth I flee" "Unto the Orient gate, by thee foreseen, " There to announce, the Prince of Peace is night I peer'd below, and saw, that gate was she Whom men revere, and angels love as Queen.
