Long ago when the people of Ireland tried to be educated they had to go to hedge schools.
There was a hedge school in Ballyglass and a number of students attended that school. They used learn Latin, Greek, Irish and French. They had only slates and slate pencils for writing with. They used sit on two sods of turf and leave the slates on their knees for writing. After a few years they had to leave it because some people did not want them to learn the Irish language(continues on next page)
