   and stockings at home but they have to buy the wool for them in town. There are some occasions on which special colours are worn. For instance, at a funeral, black is worn. On St. Patrick's Day green is worn. At a wedding, white is mostly worn. Blue and white are worn for Confirmation, in a procession and for first Holy Communion.

   The fairs of this district are held in the town of Ballyhaunis. Nowadays fairs are always held in towns but formerly they were held some distance from the town. Up to about fifty years ago buyers here transacted business at special places such as Mannan Wood and Tully Crossroads. This is no longer done. At a place called Ballina Costello, about a mile distant from Aughamore, fairs were once held, but
