- John Roddy was Mrs. Clarkes father. He was a great tradesman. He used to make "tiarachaí" for asses. He used to make mats also for asses. A tiarach was made from a straw rope. It would keep the ass from sinking on the bog.
- Machaire - Buidhe means the yellow plain. Long ago the people used to sow a lot of oats and the fields used to look yellow. There used to be yellow flowers growing along the river also. The flowers could be seen plain because the land was very level. That is the reason the village was called Machaire - Buidhe.
