- When a couple used to be getting married long ago they walked to the church or went on horse-back. The matches used to be made in a public house. Some marriage use to be made without anyone knowing it. The first person that was home in the bride's house after the marriage got a bottle of whiskey or a good piece of the wedding cake. The fortune they got was fifty pounds or else a cow and a calf. When the couple used to be leaving the house the people of the house used to fling the tongs or an old show after them for luck.
