And Saturday no day at all. - Old TradesLong ago when the people were not able to buy oil or lamps, they used to peel rushes and tie them in small bunches. Then they dipped them in melted fat, and lit them every night. In the olden times these were as useful to them as lamps are now to us. They used to make nails and pigrings in the forges from weak iron. They also twisted straw by hand and made straw ropes out of it. The old women used to spin wool and knit their own stockings. They used to boil and peel rods. Then they made white baskets and sold them in(continues on next page)
