  1. Shops were not very common in olden times. The people had to go to the nearest town to buy their provisions. Buying was seldom carried on after Mass. Money was not always given for goods. Goods were often bartered in the district. Labour was sometimes given in exchange for goods.
    Boot was given when swopping inferior animals. This was only done by the tinker class.
