Before glass came to be used, they used to have a bundle of straw or a bag of oats stuffed in the opening for a window, and when the Winter used to come, they used to be very cold with the snow and rain coming in on them. When Summer would come, they used to take these out.
The doors they had too, were very small, and they used to have a big mat or a bag stuffed with straw put in them for a door leaf.- Collector
