- (continued from previous page)will invade the wedding at the same time the feasting and dancing sometimes last more than one night and then comes what is called the "draggin home" when the groom takes his new bride to his own home often miles away from hers. This "draggin home" is considered the most en-joyable part of the festivities and is conducted entirely on horseback. Each rider is accompanied by a woman partner who sits behind him and they go off at full gallop for the new home of the bride, the first rider to reach the house gets the prize of a bottle of whiskey. This is called in some places "The race for the bottle". Very often the liquor was of the home made stuff known as poteen. There is another night of feasting and dancing in the new home to finish up the celebration.
It was the custom in some places for the Bridegroom to carry his wife across the threshold of her new home- Informant
