- Our farm animals need less care now than formerly. In olden times the lands were held in what was known as the rundale system. Each farmer possessed only small patches of land here and there. Those were too small to fence. Therefore when cattle were put to graze on those small patches various means had to be adopted to prevent them form trespassing on others people’s land. A stake was driven in the middle of the patch. To this the animal was tied(continues on next page)
