  1. The farmer that has a horse and plough always makes drills.
    This is the way he makes them. First of all he ploughs the land with a pair of horses.
    Next he harrows it and after that he makes the drills.
    Then he puts out manure on them and someone spreads it after him. The boys and girls leave the "splits," and some other one shakes bag manure under the "splits" and then the manure man comes along with the horse and plough and covers them.
    Then when the young stalks come up he "sets" them and moulds them.
    The farmer that has rocky or rough land and that has no horse nor plough makes ridges. The first thing he does is to dig the land with a spade and when he has done that he scores it into ridges.
