There is a field in Shanclough called the Chapel field, and there was a catholic Chapel built on it in the olden times. The ruins of that Chapel can be seen yet on the land owned by the late Pat Rachford of Shanclough. The field in which that Chapel was built is beside the public road leading from Ballina to Foxford and mid-way between those two towns. Shanclough is a village mid-way between the Ballina-Foxford road and the Balline-Pontoon road.
