- There lived in Tallow about 70 years ago a man named Willie Brennan who was a highwayman and robbed from the rich and gave it to the poor.
One day he was lodging on an old woman's house and the soldiers came to arrest him. He hid himself in a heap of ferns in a corner of the house. They found him and on the way to jail he met his wife on the road. He asked her for a 'tuppenny' which was a gun and she gave it to him. He held up the soldiers and escaped. This is the song which was composed about this arrest.Willie's wife was in town
