He strapped his only little girl on his back and the mate strapped the girls' mother on his back. The sea being too rough they were all drowned except three sailors who reached Dungarvan safely. The bodies of the captain, his family and the rest of the crew were washed upon the Cunnigar on Christmas morning, and they are all buried in one grave in the Protestant cemetery in Dungarvan.
