    Once upon a time there was a man living in a little house in Donegal. He had no wife or children and he thought it would be a good idea for him to look for a wife..

    no wife or children and he thought it would be a good idea for him to look for a wife. He put on his best suit of clothes and with a bottle of poteen in his pocket he set out. After searching all the parish he could get no one to be his wife, and he was very sorry. No one would marry him because he was sallow-faced and his back was humped. One night he found himself on the strand. He took out the poteen and drank it. A few moments later the fairies met him they told him to go to Connaught with them and they would get him a wife. He said he would go if he had a horse. One of the fairies then struck a ragweed with his stick and it turned into a horse, and the man went riding on it. At length the [sic] came to a large house and one the fairies told the man not to say one word. They then went into the house. There was a woman sitting at a table.
