    Indian meal bread or "Johnny cake" was made of Indian meal a grain of suet or sugar, whichever preferred, and a few eggs - enough to wet the meal. Some people put a little milk with the eggs, and used a few number of eggs to make a lighter cake. When in a batter put into a pan or oven and cover and bake. It may also be made flat in "farrells" or quarters.
    To make oatmeal cake as made in olden times wet the oatmeal with a little soft water, shape into a half circle and cut this into two "bonnocs" or "farrels" and bake on the oatmeal griddle in front of the fire. Turn often.
