- In olden times the people wore boots when they left school. They had to work for their boots. When people had a sore foot they depended on the wild herbs that grew on the side of the mountain. They had no doctors. There are two shoe-makers in the district. Bob Patterson, Carrigans and Henry Collons. They make shoes and mend shoes.
