- Long ago the people gathered sloke and it was supped and was very nice.
When the tide was low they gathered it off the rocks, and took it home and cooked it.
They put it in a pot, and put water in it, and allowed it to boil for a very long time.
If they had a lot of it to boil they would have to let it cook for eight or nine hours, and if it was a small quantity it took four to boil.
It was very wholesome and was the food of the old people; and they liked it very much.
They especially used it in Lent, for they did not eat much - only bread and water in this time, so they used this sloke, and it was used by them every day.
People do not make sloke in this part of the country now, but long ago(continues on next page)- Informant
