    It is the custom in this district when a cow has her first calf to put a piece of silver in the bottom of the pan and milk the cow into the pan.
    The silver is then put into the basin out of which the calf is fed and this is done for luck.
    When the calf gets its first drink, the person requires to help it to drink by giving it his finger to suck and in this way the calf soon learns to drink the milk by itself
    When the cow is milked for the first few times after she had calved most of this milk is made into beastings after sufficient has been reserved for feeding the calf.
