    man gave them the stable. During the night a pain struck the woman in the side and her husband went to the stable in which the Holy Family remained. He lifted a wisp of straw and placed it on the woman's side and instantly the pain left her. Therefore it is piously believed that on Christmas night there is a certain cure connected with the bedding of animals.

    It is said that the cock crowed: "Christ is born", on that first Christmas night, the raven asked, "When?" the crow replied: "This night". The ox cried out, "Where? Where?" The sheep bleated out, "Bethlehem!" A voice from Heaven sounded: "Glory be to God on high".
