  2. Long ago most of the houses had thatched roofs and some slates ones. The thatch consisted of rushes got in the bog and the slates were bought in Derry. There was a bed in every kitchen. The bed was in the corner beside the kitchen fire and it as called 'the outshot bed'. The fireplace was always at the gable wall. The fireplace was built with stones and clashed with mortar.
