If the broc (always used for badger in the district) sees his own shadow on Candlemas Day, there will be bad weather for three months.
A good February curses all the other months of the year.
As the day lengthens, the cold strengthens.
The people in this district have a lot of beliefs with regards to the weather. Some of the signs are observed in the sky; others in the animals, and others in the birds.
In the evenings if the sky is red, it is a sign of approaching bad weather and wind. When the clouds are black, and are floating very low,(continues on next page)
