- In olden times spinning was practiced in every part of Ireland. Long ago there was a street in Balllinrobe and it was called Weaver's Row because a lot of weavers lived there. The people used to make there own thread and there own spinning wheels also. Another old trade was the making of soaps, and the making of baskets also. The people made soap from dripping and pot-ash. The men used make ploughs were very big and heavy. The people had no carts long ago only donkeys and baskets.
