  1. There lived in Balrothery long ago a man named John Martin who got the nickname of The Iron Devil. He was so called because of his great love for fighting. He was very fond of drink, and he was often drunk, then he would start fighing with any person he could pick a quarrell. He often came in contact with the police, and when the police would try to arrest him he would resist, and the struggle was often so fierce that reinforcements had to be sent for to bring him to the barracks. It often took as many as six policemen to bring him to the barracks, as he was very hardy and strong.
