- During the war 1917 a small steamship called the Shamrock was trading between Glasgow and Dublin. She ran ashore on the North East Coast of Lambay Island in a very dense fog. She got so far in that the crew walked ashore on the grass on the island.
On board was a thorough bred stallion which was landed safely on the island by the means of slings. Part of the cargo was saved. She had on board also machines and boots. The rest of the cargo remained on board till the vessel broke up on the rocks.
