“Near my home is a holly tree.”
Near my home is a holly tree. It grows on the farm of the late Hugh McLaughlin. It grows on top of a quarry. Men quarried stones until they reached the roots of the tree. One of them struck the roots by accident when suddenly he was spattered with blood. They stopped work at once. The man became insane later. Never has a stone been quarried and the quarry is red where the work stopped. Any person who pulled a berry from the holly tree got a grey patch on his head.
This story was told by Hugh when he was alive. He is now almost two years dead.- Collector
