15th November 1938
A farmers wife was in want of a maid to do the work of the house. Three maids from the town came to look for the place. As they came near the house, the farmer said to his wife, "Now I will show you how to choose a maid". He laid a broom across the path that led to the door. Then they stood at at window to watch the girls coming along. The first girl kicked the broom, and the farmer said to his wife, "She is an uderidle lass, she won't bend her back". The second girl skipped over the broom. "She won't suit" said the farmer, "she will skip her work". But the third girl picked up the broom, and the farmer said, "That's the lass for me, and I am sure she will work hard to please us".- Collector
