- 6. In Garbally there is a field called the "Mass field" at which mass for the Irish people was said in the penal times.
A few miles from Ballinasloe there is a place called "Beara Crádh" which means "The Gap of Sorrow, because part of the Irish Army was killed there by the English army at the Battle of Aughrim.
A bit farther on there is another place called "The Bloody Hollow" where another batch of Irish men was murdered by the English after they had surrendered.Got from,
