    was put standing on a wall or hedge. They would throw the spear through this loop.
    Spinning tops were made from spools and pieces of wood. The spools were first made round and brought to a point, then a piece of wood would be stuck through the hole in the spool and the top would be made.
    Toy guns used to be made from pieces of elder. The elder used be made smooth and there the inside would be scooped out and a cork forced into it. The cork was shoved, or "fired", by pushing it with a stick put in at the other end of the piece of elder. The cork would "pop" out when pushed, hence this toy was called a pop gun.
