(gan teideal) (ar lean)
“In the parish of Killimor, quite recently a woman had only one cow and yet she sold as much butter as two extensive farmers near her who had several cows.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)no butter but that the above- mentioned woman could have plenty of it.
The neighbour told the man to get a bottle and to go some night and milk the suspected woman's cow into it and to bring home this milk and use it. The man did as he had been advised by his neighbour and the butter was restored to his own cows milk.
In other cases the priest had to interfere.- To take butter away from a cow.
They used to watch a cow which they knew was good for butter and at midnight on May Eve they used to take a pinch of the clay out of that part of the cow track where the hoof cuts the sod.
People do not churn on May Day and they do not like to sell milk on May Day.
