The chimney was made of yellow clay on the outside, straw in the middle, and bricks on the inside.The windows usually consisted of a fairly large hole in the wall with two wooden shutters in them for winter. Nearly always, net-wire was put on them for the summer.Half-doors were very common formerly but they are not in use now.The floors of the houses were made of flags, and plastered together with clay and lime.(Betty Carthy, Northbrook)
