    were very strong. They were mad of clay, lime, and stones. The chimney was made of yellow clay on the outside, straw in the middle, and bricks on the inside.
    The windows usually consisted of a fairly large hole in the wall with two wooden shutters in them for winter. Nearly always, net-wire was put on them for the summer.
    Half-doors were very common formerly but they are not in use now.
    The floors of the houses were made of flags, and plastered together with clay and lime.
