- There are ruins of many of the old houses to be seen yet.
Most of the old houses were thatched. The thatch was made with straw. The fireplace was mostly in a corner or at the gable. The chimneys used to be made with timber in the houses, and in the slated houses, the chimneys used to be made with morter.
The old people never remembered houses without a chimney. Half doors were very common.- Collector

- There are many old houses in the district. There are two old houses in the townland of Ballimabella and in the parish of Cappatagh, the names of the are, Hyness old house, this old house is very old it is a thatched house it is broken down nowadays. There is another old house in the district, it is called Martins. There is no body living there nowadays. Houses were mostly thatched.(continues on next page)
