- (continued from previous page)The work of picking the potatoes is chiefly the children's job. The waste and small potatoes are put into a sperate pit, and are given to the pigs. Each covering the potatoes dug during the day are covered with straw. When the digging is finished the pits are covered with clay to save the potatoes from the frost.
- First you boil a pot of potatoes. Then you peel some of them, and break them up with a clean bottle. Then mix them through the flour and bake the cake in the oven. Put coals under the oven and on the lid. Potato cakes are served hot with butter.
