- Long ago people had a lot of cures for all sorts of diseases, and some of them wrote them down before they died.
A cure for warts is said to be. Get a big black snail, and rub it on the wart, then stick it on a whitethorn bush, and when the snail is withered the wart will be gone.
Another cure for whooping cough is, catch a trout alive in a stream, and let three drops out of its mouth, into the person's mouth who has the cough.
Then put the trout back in the stream, without hitting it.
If a person licks a man keeper he will have a cure for a burn.
