"A Hedge Schoolmaster" he was called.
There was a hedge school master in Curraghfore.
He was a very small man and his name was Gilroy and the pupils called him "Wee Gilroy". Some of the boys disliked the teacher because they were forcibly sent to school by their parents who knew the loss of education to them. When ever "wee Gilroy" talked rough to them or gave them any abuse, some of the big boys gave him blow for blow.
Scholars travelled from all parts of the country in Winter and early Spring to the hedge school(continues on next page)- Collector
