- The people formerly wore no shoes until they were about twenty years of age. Some wore no shoes until they were getting married. There is only one shoemaker in this district now. My father remembers when there were six, all of whom were kept busy. Edward Rooney, the local shoemaker does repair work chiefly, as practically all boots and shoes are bought in shops.
