The cranes flying up high is a sign of rain Rea clouds over the mountains is a sign of frost. Whatever way the wind blows on Halloween it will blow that way the whole Winter.
It is a sign of snow if the cat sits with it's back to the fire.
Rain is coming if the mountains look near. When the sun gets up red it will rain. IT will rain when the crickets sing loudly. If the hens stay out in the rain it will not let up that day. (stop).
If the hens run in it will only be a shower.
If the sun going down shines red on the gable of St. Mary's Church, Glenfarne it will rain.
If the smoke puffs it will rain.
When rain is coming the wind comes from Manorhamilton and from an old rock situated between the Lackagh Hills and the Buileagh Mountains in a barren piece of land the people in this district call it Frank James Rock.
A robin singing on the highest branch of a hawthorn bush in the morning is the sign of a good day.
