- Thatching is still carreid on in my district. It is done by the local people and in my district nearly all the houses are thatched. The rushes are cut, tied in sheaves and left to dry. The thatch is put on the house in streaks. The streak is about two feet wide and stretched on the side of the roof from the top of the side wall to the top or rigging of the house. Willows are pointed and driven through the thatch in order to keep it from been blown off the house by the wind. The local thatcher in my district is Patrick McMorrow Dromcosla Drumkeerin.
