The people believed long ago that if they were churning and one of the neighbours to come in and not to churn for a little while that they would lose the butter. If a person was churning on the first of May and one of their neighbours to come in for milk the person would not take the milk without some of the milk, that was been churned through it. It was know for people to scatter primroses round their houses on May Day to bring back butter.
