The people had no manure to plant potatoes and they had to burn clay to make manure The people of Leitrim suffered a great many hardships at the hands of English soldiers The worst of these soldiers was a man named Sir Fredrick Hamilton who lived in Manorhamilton and it was after him that the town of Manorhamilton was named Long ago there was a monastery at Curraghs The name of the Order to which the monks belonged to was the Benedictine Order.
